Join us on 14 March at 12:00 for an engaging discussion exploring the changing media landscape of global sport.
Hosted by Michael Beddoes, this event features presentations by Raymond Boyle and Richard Haynes, drawing on their book Streaming the Formula 1 Rivalry: Sport and the Media in the Platform Age.
Using the global spectacle of Formula One motor racing as a sustained case study, the talk examines how the relationship between sport and media has evolved in today’s digital and platform-driven environment. The authors explore how new media ownership and innovative social and digital strategies have expanded the sport’s global reach, revitalising a television product once thought by many to be in decline.
Drawing on original interviews with key stakeholders across the sports and media industries, the research highlights the narratives and representations that shape the sport’s appeal. It also considers how F1’s relationship with other television genres, most notably the Drive to Survive series, has influenced both the nature of the sport and the composition of its audience.
This event offers valuable insights for anyone interested in sport, media, digital culture, and the transformation of broadcasting in the platform age.
