Sustainability
At Silverstone Museum, we are committed to operating responsibly and sustainably in every aspect of our work. From reducing waste and carbon emissions to supporting local suppliers and eliminating single-use plastics, we continually strive to minimise our environmental impact while preserving the legacy of British motorsport for future generations.
Waste Management and Recycling
The Museum aims to recycle waste effectively, working with its waste management and cleaning contractors to achieve this and encouraging visitor buy-in via use of waste segregation bins, for example in Refuel Cafe. Our catering partner Graysons actively recycles cooking oil (into biofuel) and coffee grounds.
COLLABORATING WITH MERCHANDISE SUPPLIERS USING RECYCLED MATERIALS
Another way in which we are seeking to better support a circular economy is by working with merchandise developers that prioritise the use of recycled materials in product manufacture.
CARBON REDUCTION
We plan the Museum’s use of AV technologies to optimise energy consumption to times only when it is needed. Our catering partner Graysons has invested in energy efficient catering equipment including café refrigerators with doors to maintain optimal temperatures and freshness. Graysons uses only fresh foods in season and most of its produce is sourced locally to minimise the carbon miles required to get our food produce to our customers. The Museum and Graysons is also forging a partnership with Made in Northamptonshire to help support this effort and the county’s fabulous local producers!
ELIMINATING PLASTIC FROM OUR OPERATION
The Museum’s café, retail and cleaning operations are minimising single-use plastic use in operations – from wooden cutlery, paper cups/straws, cardboard cartons to the full adoption of paper bags (from January 2026) in our shop.
USING ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CLEANING PRODUCTS & EQUIPMENT
Our cleaning contractor We Clean Ltd uses only chemical-free cleaning products and minimises water consumption in its cleaning operations through floor scrubbing equipment that uses water-recovery technology.
